Wheels motorcycles open in Leicester

09 January 2017

A Peterborough-based motorcycle dealer is expanding to Leicester, with the creation of 15 jobs.

Leading Leicestershire commercial property specialist Andrew and Ashwell has let the former Kwik Fit car servicing premises off Abbey Lane on a ten-year lease to Wheels Motorcyles, a major Honda dealer.

Established for 15 years and formerly known as Taz, Wheels Motorcycles has chosen Leicester as a central location to employ the new team and expand its customer base through a second branch.

With over 5,000 sq ft of ground floor space, the new premises is prominently located on the corner of Littleton Street, Woodgate, a mile north of Leicester city centre. The site has easy access to inner and outer ringroad motorway connections, as well as main road routes, including the A50.

Wheels Motorcycles is known as East Anglia's largest motorcycle and scooter dealership, with a reputation for outstanding service supplying new and used motorcycles and scooters. The company stocks top names in motorcycle clothing and accessories, such as Alpine Stars and RST.

The revamp of the premises features full renovation, with a glass frontage, workshop area and parking for 15 cars. The new workforce will include a professional team of sales staff and mechanics.

Tom Meynell, Associate Director at Andrew and Ashwell, explained: “This was a fairly complex transaction, as Halfords Autocentres previously took on the Kwik Fit lease, for the whole site.

“When the lease expired Halfords only wanted a fraction of the space, so we brokered a deal through which they remained on part of the site, leaving us to secure a tenant for the remainder; this being the Honda deal.

“The convenient location and the open, ground floor area provides ideal showroom space that will help Wheels Honda to expand as intended. We wish them every success in their new venture.”

Neil Steen, Managing Director of Wheels Honda, is delighted with both the city centre location and the building, which is set for a January launch and official opening in February.

“We searched long and hard for the right premises. This building offers scope for further growth, building our name and reputation and alerting customers to our extensive new and used motorcycle ranges, as well as delivering high quality, local servicing.

“We have further plans in the pipeline for growing our business, coming soon, so watch this space.”
